Sha'Carri Richardson Sets Sights on LA28 Redemption After Paris Heartbreak

After finishing fourth in the Paris 100m final, Richardson relocated to Southern California and changed coaches β€” targeting gold on home soil in 2028.

LOS ANGELES, USA – Sha'Carri Richardson has one goal for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics: gold. After a disappointing performance at Paris 2024, where she failed to medal in the 100m, the American sprint star is laser-focused on redemption on home soil.

"I want that gold medal more than anything," Richardson said at a recent press event in Los Angeles. "To do it in front of my family, my friends, my home crowd? That's the dream."

WHAT WENT WRONG IN PARIS

Richardson entered Paris 2024 as the world champion and heavy favorite. A sluggish start in the final left her in fourth place, behind Jamaica's Shericka Jackson and two other sprinters. She anchored the U.S. 4x100m relay team to silver, but the individual loss stung.

THE RESET

Since Paris, Richardson has changed coaches and relocated her training base to Southern California. "I'm here early," she said. "By 2028, this track will feel like my backyard."

Her new training regimen under coach Dennis Mitchell emphasizes start mechanics β€” her weakness in Paris β€” and longer sprint repeats to build endurance for the 200m, which she may also contest in LA28.

"Sha'Carri is hungry," Mitchell said. "Hungry athletes are dangerous athletes."

If Richardson can translate her world-class top-end speed into a clean start, she will be nearly impossible to beat on home soil in front of 80,000 fans.
