'Dream Team 2028' Taking Shape: Curry, Durant, and Tatum Commit to LA28
Curry at 40, Durant at 39, and Tatum as the centerpiece β plus Anthony Edwards, Haliburton, and Adebayo β would make LA28 men's basketball a generational showcase.
LOS ANGELES, USA β The U.S. men's basketball team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is already taking shape, and it may be the most star-studded American squad since the original Dream Team.
THE COMMITMENTS
Stephen Curry (40 in 2028): "One more? In my home state? That's too good to pass up." Curry won his first Olympic gold in Paris 2024 at 36.
Kevin Durant (39 in 2028): Four Olympic golds (2012, 2016, 2020, 2024). All-time leading scorer in U.S. Olympic men's basketball history. "I'll keep playing until they tell me to stop."
Jayson Tatum (30 in 2028): Expected to be the team's centerpiece. Gold in Paris 2024. Emerging as the NBA's premier two-way player. "Leading Team USA in LA would be a dream come true."
THE SUPPORTING CAST
Also reportedly interested: Anthony Edwards (26), Tyrese Haliburton (28), Bam Adebayo (30). Coaching: Steve Kerr (if retained) or Erik Spoelstra.
THE VENUES
Men's basketball will be played at the Crypto.com Arena and the Intuit Dome (home of the LA Clippers). Gold medal game: July 29, 2028.
"The challenge isn't finding talent," said USA Basketball managing director Grant Hill. "It's picking the right 12."
With LeBron James also hinting at a return, LA28 could see five Hall of Famers on the same roster. The last time that happened? Barcelona 1992.
