USWNT Path to LA28 Cleared as Concacaf W Championship Field Is Set

Eight nations will compete in late 2026 for three Olympic berths, with the U.S. entering as the defending Olympic champion ranked No. 2 in the world.

CONCACAF W CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD CONFIRMED

MIAMI, USA – The United States women's national team's road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is now clearly defined, with the Concacaf W Championship field officially set for November and December 2026.

The tournament will serve as the qualifier for both the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics. For the Olympics, which have expanded to 16 teams for LA28, Concacaf will send three representatives: the two teams that reach the W Championship final, plus the third-place finisher.

USA AND CANADA AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFIED

The United States and Canada automatically qualified for the Concacaf W Championship based on their FIFA rankings in August 2025. The USWNT was ranked No. 2 in the world β€” just behind Spain β€” while Canada was ranked No. 9.

Six other nations have joined them: Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama, Haiti, and El Salvador, all finishing atop their respective qualification groups.

Mexico is looking to qualify for its first FIFA Women's World Cup since 2015, while Jamaica's Reggae Girlz β€” who reached the Round of 16 in the 2023 World Cup β€” appear poised for another deep run.

ROSE BOWL HOSTS THE FINAL

The USWNT will be defending its Olympic gold medal from Paris 2024. The women's soccer tournament at LA28 will begin on July 11, 2028 β€” three days before the Opening Ceremony β€” with the gold medal final scheduled for July 29 at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena.
